With a warm, spherical, captivating, beautiful, and melodic sound, Peter Marott flings the doors to his personal universe wide open. With his classic, yet incredibly iconic and warm sound, Marott invites the listener into a space where there’s room for both joyful grooves and deep reflection. Peter Marott is currently releasing his new album: “Marott” – a self-titled release with his own name on the cover – and with good reason! Peter Marott himself calls the album his most personal to date, containing tracks about longing, sorrow, love, joy of life, and the search for self. The songs are written about life events that have shaped Marott’s journey – and the listener is taken along for the entire ride – from euphoric bliss to the depths of sorrow. Although the widely recognized trumpeter is well known from his work on other artists’ albums and live performances, it is only now that his own compositions are seeing the light of day and being fully realized. On “Marott”, there are both new compositions and pieces that have been in the making for a long time – but only now have found their true form. This happened in part while Peter Marott was musical director at Zirkus Nemo, where, between many shows, there was time for immersion and the quiet to let emotions turn into music. On “Marott”, Peter is joined by talented musical companions who support the deeply personal compositions in the finest way. These are musicians who know Marott well and therefore understand both the man and the musician. The quartet features Martin Schack on Hammond organ, Regin Fuhlendorf on guitar, Morten Ærø on drums. Additionally, one of Denmark’s finest saxophonists, Jan Harbeck, appears on two tracks. All are musicians with unique and individual sounds that fit perfectly into the world of “Marott”, whether it be groovy and uplifting or thoughtful and dreamy.

Behind the songs:

01. PROLOG

Dansk:

Engelsk:
“Prolog” was written for my father, who chose to leave this world when I was just seven years old. It is a story of endings and beginnings – of how darkness can give birth to new light.
Within the music, my love for him lives on, woven together with grief, yet carried by hope. Losing him left deep marks on me; an early awakening to life’s fragility, its arbitrary injustices – but also its beauty. Life is a dance of both tears and love, and I have learned to seize each day, to love without hesitation, and to hold close those who make the world brighter.

02. FEELING FINE

Dansk:

Engelsk:
How do you respond when someone asks, “How are you?” Often, the person asking doesn’t expect a deep answer – and the automatic response tends to be: “I’m fine.” Sometimes, it’s just easier not to dig into the challenges we’re facing. “Feeling Fine” is a tribute to that feeling – but also a reminder of the importance of asking sincerely, listening openly, and perhaps daring to open up more. We rarely know what others are truly going through, so we need to be more curious, open, and honest with each other.
While you listen to the music, you might take a moment to ask yourself: “How am I really feeling?”

03. SEKSTEN

Dansk:

Engelsk:
In “Seksten” (Danish for “sixteen”), I dream myself back to my teenage years, when I was full of hope and big dreams for the future. I had just been accepted into a music high school and dreamed of becoming a musician. The curiosity and boldness of that age were immense, and the energy from that time is something I still try to hold on to as an adult. Also, note that the melody is built around the interval known as the sixth – “seksten” in Danish.

04. VÅGEN I VALBY

Dansk:

Engelsk:
As a counterpart to the film Sleepless in Seattle, here comes the composition “Vågen i Valby” (Awake in Valby). When night falls, there is a calm that allows thoughts to drift — sometimes with worries, but other times with grand visions and hopes for the future.

05. LUFTBALLON

Dansk:

Engelsk:
Let us drift away in a hot air balloon, leaving all our worries behind. See everything from above and enjoy the silence. Let ourselves be carried by the wind. The music was written during the COVID lockdown – a time when the longing to escape was especially strong.

06. NO WORK BLUES

Dansk:

Engelsk:
A tribute to unemployment. As a freelance musician, January is often one of the quietest months in terms of concerts. This piece was written during such a January and is about finding the balance — not coming to a standstill, but instead using the time to enjoy the calm, reflect on everything, and create new ideas.
Being unemployed is actually hard work!

07. ZIRKUS IN THE RAIN

Dansk:

Engelsk:
In 2023, I was hired as the bandleader for a circus.
Playing in the Danish comedy circus, Zirkus Nemo, felt like stepping into a magical world: the most beautiful circus tent, incredible artists from all over the world, and the warmest Zirkus-family one could ever wish for. The circus season runs from April to September, and during that time, I lived in a charming old circus wagon, usually placed near forests and beaches. It was wonderful when the sun was shining, but it became truly magical when the rain came, and you could hear the drops tapping on the roof.

08. HEJ PAUL!

Dansk:

Engelsk:
Where does my inspiration come from, and why do I compose the way I do? Throughout my life, I’ve been influenced by an incredible amount of beautiful music – countless genres and a host of amazing artists whose music has touched me and still stirs my emotions. A sea of records worn out from being played over and over, because the music made an impression and struck a chord within me. I remember my childhood, lying under the table listening to the music playing at the adults’ parties. My melodic approach to composition is a rich mix of Nordic folk songs, hymns, jazz, and pop music — just to name a few. This composition is a tribute to one of these musical heroes – one among many. Can you guess who it is?

09. GODNAT

Dansk:

Engelsk:
A little lullaby meant to bring some peace to the soul and a reassurance that everything will be alright.
